Welcome to the website of Scholarships for Street Kids (S4SK), a small British Quaker-based charity (UK Charity Commission No: 1131559), and the Phoenix Academy for Learning and Motivation (PALM), a local non-profit educational institute.  Together, we work to provide educational opportunities for very poor and destitute children in Myanmar.

PALM was previously registered as Hope for Shining Stars (H4SS).  To give the very best opportunity to our students, and ensure sustainability of the organisation, the Governing Board of H4SS decided to register as a limited company committed to provision of education to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.  All the existing work of H4SS will continue as before, with the addition of capacity-building courses, introducing the child-centred, active-learning approach to education, for teachers across the sector.

We are a small charity with very low overheads.  The life-changing effects of a donation to S4SK can be enormous.  Please help if you can by donating here:

Or you can set up a regular payment using our donation form, here.

You can get an idea of the difficulties our children face, and something of the impact of our work, from these short video documentary films which follow the daily lives of some of our students as they work and study.

Through provision of educational opportunities at different levels, together with measures to respond to the poverty of their families, we aim, one step at a time, to bring real change to these children's lives.

Education is always incremental in nature, like a ladder, and we can help them take significant steps towards success.  After completing the non-formal education syllabus, students can apply for scholarships to help them undertake vocational training or further study.
